Balurghat: History, Geography, Tourism
Balurghat is the district headquarters of the Dakshin or South Dinajpur district located in the state of West Bengal. It is truly a sensational escapade, known for its lush green countryside. Most of it is still devoid of the air and sound pollution, therefore offers a fantastic tourist spot frequented by the local populace. Balurghat itself is a small town which surrounded by forests. The Raghunathpur forest and Dogachhi forest are located at a stones throw from the town. The Dogachhi forest also has boating facility which is enjoyed by the tourists.
You can visit the Raghunathpur forest while staying in Balurghat, or even think of a more adventurous trip with a night stay at the forest department bungalow available with prior booking. Within the town you can visit the College Museum, which has a unique collection of various artefacts from the ancient times, such as sculptures, coins, inscriptions, terracotta items, and ornamental stones.

-Hili is located near the India’s border with Bangladesh. It is about 25 km from the town Balurghat. It is a fantastic place to visit known for the fabulous landscapes.
-Sarongbari is famous picnic spot situated in the forest of the same name. There are small hut and a drinking water supply for the tourists. It is around 20 km from the district town of Balurghat.
-Bolla Kali Temple which is located around 20 km from Balurghat on the road to Malda. This is a famous temple for its legendary power.
-Tapan Dighi is situated nearly 35 km from Balurghat. The lake is a major attraction for the tourists. There is a mound located on the northern side of the lake which supposed to have been there since the time of Lord Buddha.
-Bangarh is place with historical importance. A major part of the ancient relics dating back to the Gupta Age were excavated here. It is located nearly 45 km from the Balurghat.
